Anode Kit for Mercury Alpha One
We continue to see the numerous sacrificial anodes kits used to protect the marine engines on the market. The extraction of the Anode of the Week of today sees favor not one, but two kits. Today, in fact, we talk about the kits for the Alpha One engine by Mercury Marine.

When it comes to marine engines, the Mercury Marine is probably one of the most famous companies in the world, challenged only by rival Volvo Penta. Founded in 1939 as Kiekhaefer Mercury (from the name of its founder, Carl Kiekhaefer, and from that of the mythological God Mercury), it entered the motor market almost by accident, but obtained an immediate success that brought it to grow very fast. Mercury Marine is currently a division of Brunswick Corporation and owns the brands: Mercury, Mercury Racing, MerCruiser and Mariner Outboards. The companies that are also part of the group are: Quicksilver (accessories and marine parts), Mercury Precision Parts and Accessories, Arvor & Black Fin (boats), Cummins MerCruiser Diesel (diesel engines), Mercury Jet Drivers (specialized in jet engines) and Mercury Propellers (own production of engine propellers).
The Mercury Marine produces all three types of marine engines (you can find more information here), but especially excels in the sale of outboard engines and stern drives. For the former, the most famous brand is certainly Verado, but there are many alternatives with powers ranging from 30 to 1200 hp. They also sell engines of less than 30 hp, but these are produced by the Japanese company Tohatsu. Regarding inboard and sterndrive engines, these are identified by the MerCruiser brand and are available in both petrol (the standard choice) and diesel (produced by CMD).
The Alpha One engine, of which we speak today, is just a stern group. It is a single-prop foot designed for motorization up to 4.3L (petrol) or 1.7L (diesel) of displacement. It is certainly one of the products behind the brand's success as it is resistant, versatile and reliable. It can be used either alone or in coupled installations. There are two different generations with only the most recent one still on the market (but generation 1 can still be found around and is very common). The generation 2 is characterized by an efficient hydrodynamic profile that produces very little drag.
There are therefore two different kits of sacrificial anodes for Mercury Alpha One, one for generation 1 engines and one for generation 2 engines. The first kit is much smaller and contains only: a gimbal >anode (Cod.Tec.00806BIS), a standard trim tab anode (Cod.Tec.00800) and a pair of anodes to fix the aft foot (00807). The second kit is more consistent and contains, in addition to the aforementioned gimbal anode: a collar to protect the trim cylinder (Cod.Tec.00817), a bearing carrier anode (Cod.Tec.00819), a flat trim tab anode to replace the fin (Cod.Tec.00820) and, above all, a plate that protects the propeller from the cavitation (00814), that is the corrosion given by the air bubbles that break on the propeller.
As for the other sacrificial anode kits, also in this case the products can be purchased in groups or individually, by consulting the appropriate pages in the Tecnoseal catalog. In both cases the anodes are available in all three alloys: aluminum, magnesium and zinc. If kits are chosen, however, screws are included in the package.
